Climbing the LEO Ladder: Catalina

Catalina saw the merit of an education before she connected with LEO. As a student at North Shore Community College, she needed a place to leave her children while she took classes. A classmate from North Shore was coincidentally employed by LEO; she spoke so highly about the resources for...

Parent to Professional: Belkis

Belkis learned about LEO from a neighbor, and that conversation would plot her journey to success. At first, LEO was just a nurturing place where she could leave her child while she worked. Hunger in Massachusetts is a systemic problem that requires a change in systems to eradicate. We were honored to be invited to attend the Ending Hunger MA forum.

Some great context from the State House News:
As the costs for basic necessities rise, MA residents living on the economic margins must choose between buying groceries and paying for housing, transportation, childcare and basic utilities. It’s a dilemma that plays out in hundreds of thousands of MA households. Hunger and access to proper nutrition remain pervasive. Hunger in MA is significantly higher among Black and Latinx populations, and visits to local food pantries have not returned to pre-pandemic levels. Food insecurity rates among MA college students, seniors, and immigrants remain surprisingly high. The issue of food insecurity recently gathered national leaders at a historic White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health creating a national strategy to end hunger and reduce diet-related disease in America by 2030. Leaders across the Commonwealth of MA are convening and building a framework to advance our state’s food security by 2030 as well.
